Materials
Supply, sourcing and delivery
At the heart of what we do is a carefully curated selection of natural and low-carbon building materials, available for order, pickup, or delivery across Quebec and Ontario.
Natural building materials supply
We stock and supply a complete range of bio-sourced and low-carbon materials: hemp hurds, hemp and wood fiber insulation, lime binders and mortars, natural finishes and plasters, breathable membranes, and tapes. Whether you need a few bags or a full truck, we'll get you what you need.
In-stock inventory for most standard orders
Typical lead time: 2 weeks to 1 month for large orders
Delivery available across Canada
Material quantity takeoffs and specification support available
Expertise
Design, performance & consulting
Natural building requires more than good materials. It requires the right knowledge. Our consulting and design services help you make informed decisions, meet performance targets, and navigate the programs and certifications that can help fund your project.
Building design for energy performance
We design and optimize building envelopes using bio-sourced and low-carbon materials, including geometry, orientation, glazing, insulation systems, and airtightness strategies. Our approach targets high performance standards including Passive House (PHIUS/PHI) and Novoclimat, with an emphasis on natural and healthy materials throughout.
Envelope design and optimization
Passive House and Novoclimat-aligned design
Hygrothermal analysis (moisture & thermal performance)
Access to OIQ-licensed Professional Engineer for project stamping
Architectural coordination with partner firms where required
Embodied carbon analysis & optimization
Embodied carbon — the carbon emitted in manufacturing, transporting, and installing materials — is increasingly central to green building standards and client expectations. We conduct whole-building embodied carbon assessments and identify material substitutions and design strategies to reduce your project's carbon footprint from the ground up.
Whole-life carbon assessment
Material-level carbon comparison and substitution strategy
Alignment with emerging reporting requirements (LEED, Zero Carbon)
Green certifications & subsidy guidance
Navigating the landscape of green building programs can be complex. We help you identify which certifications and subsidies your project qualifies for, and support you through the application process.
Rénoclimat (Hydro-Québec & Énergir retrofit subsidies)
Canada Greener Homes Grant
Novoclimat (new construction energy standard)
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
Passive House (PHIUS / PHI)
Retrofit and renovation-specific program guidance
Community
We believe natural construction should be within everyone's reach — in terms of knowledge, skills, and cost. Our community-facing services are designed to empower people to build well, and to make sure those who need support the most can access it.
Workshops & hands-on training
We run workshops that teach the fundamentals of building with bio-sourced materials — from understanding hempcrete mixes to applying lime plasters and installing natural insulation systems. Our workshops are designed for curious beginners and hands-on learners, with a focus on practical, transferable skills.
Hands-on hempcrete mixing and placement
Lime plastering and natural finishes
Natural insulation systems and installation
Theory sessions on building science and material performance
Open to the general public — no prior experience required
Building Together: community & social support
BIOMATERRA is as much a social project as a business. We believe that everyone, regardless of income, background, or circumstance, deserves access to healthy, natural, high-quality housing. The Building Together program exists to make that possible.
Discounted or subsidized material pricing
Expert labor donated or offered at reduced cost
Volunteer build days with on-site learning
Project workshops open to community members
Crowdfunding campaign support and community fundraising
Subsidy and grant application assistance
Each project is considered individually. If you believe your project qualifies, we'd love to hear from you.
